Naomi Osaka has been threatened with disqualification from the French Open and a suspension from future grand-slam tournaments, including Wimbledon, for her unprecedented media boycott at Roland Garros.

In an extraordinary statement signed by representatives of all four majors, the world No 2 from Japan has been told that she will be severely disciplined if she continues to avoid mandatory post-match press conferences this fortnight.

Osaka, 23, announced through Twitter on Thursday that she would refuse to perform media duties in Paris because of the impact on her mental health, and she lived up to that vow today by failing to appear in front of the press after her first-round victory. She did, however, agree to a brief on-court interview in front of the crowd
